Games with a plot, people worth caring about, and an ending.
Most browser games are built to be played for five minutes and forgotten. These are the other kind: games you sit down with for an evening, that have characters with names and a story that goes somewhere and stops when it is finished.

Hushfall is the long one — a complete turn-based JRPG of about three hours. A kingdom is forgetting itself one name at a time, and a village scrivener who can still see what was forgotten sets out with a courier, a monk and an old soldier to find out who is feeding its memory to the thing beneath it. Battles are about reading foes: weaknesses, a Poise bar that Breaks, bosses that warn you before they hit. It has six side quests that each tell somebody's story, and two endings.
Mirecut is the detective one. One murder, one logging town, one night, in a PS1-style 3D world: you question the people who knew the victim, search the houses and the creek, and name the killer yourself. The case can be solved properly from the evidence, and the game does not tell you when you have it.
Haunted Street is a point-and-click horror adventure built like a lost 1994 game: four neighbours who have stopped pretending on Halloween night, a puzzle in each house, a missing-child story underneath, and three endings. Looking at everything is the whole game.
STILLHOUR tells its story through an empty building rather than a cast: a hotel at 3:17 in the morning that rearranges itself when you are not looking, and the notes left by somebody who was there before you. Cryptling is the odd one out — a daily turn-based roguelike with no script at all — but it belongs on this shelf for the same reason the others do: every death is a story you made yourself.
Start with Hushfall if you have an evening and want a JRPG with an ending. Haunted Street is the shortest complete story here; Mirecut the one that trusts you most.
