How to Play Cluster Hunt

The board starts with sixteen words. Somewhere inside are four hidden groups of four words each. Your job is to find all four groups before you run out of strikes.

Tap (or click) four words you think share a connection, then hit Submit. If you’re right, the group locks in and reveals the theme. If you’re wrong, you lose a strike and the tiles shake.

Four strikes and the game ends. Solve all four groups to win and bank the score.

Groups come in four tiers: Literal (straightforward), Lateral (one step sideways), Thematic (category-based), and Tricky (wordplay, compounds, puns). The trickier the tier, the more tempting the decoy overlaps.

Cluster Hunt Strategy Guide

1. Start with the group you’re most sure about. A clean lock frees up four tiles and removes the decoys pulling you toward a wrong answer.
2. If three words feel right and the fourth is a stretch, trust your gut on the three — the fourth is probably in another group.
3. Watch for compound-word categories (HONEY ___, ___ BAR, etc.). Tricky groups usually hide in plain sight as a word fragment.
4. If you lock in three groups, the last four are free — but the score only pays out if you submit the final group explicitly.
5. The "so close" hint tells you three of your four share a group. Swap the odd one out and try again.
