How to Play Steamline

You start near a hub city with a few stations and unlocked track. Most rail lines are locked behind gates.

Click industry sites (dashed squares) to build processing facilities. Building certain industries unlocks new rail corridors.

Click a station to buy trains and dispatch them. Trains pick up raw resources at resource stations and drop off at industries.

Industries process raw inputs into finished goods. Send trains to collect outputs and deliver to cities for cash.

Cities have demand lists — delivering demanded goods earns a 50% bonus. Unlock all corridors and connect every city to maximize your score.

Reach score thresholds to unlock Canada (5,000 pts) and Europe (15,000 pts).

Steamline Strategy Guide

1. Build a Sawmill or Flour Mill first — they are cheap and unlock key rail corridors early.
2. Start with Freight trains for their low cost. Upgrade to Express or Heavy trains once revenue is flowing.
3. Prioritize delivering goods that cities demand for the 50% price bonus.
4. Chain industries: raw lumber → Sawmill → planks → Factory (+ steel) → machinery. Machinery is the highest-value good.
5. Use game speed (1/2/3 keys) to fast-forward while trains are in transit.
