Sketchling

Draw it. Guess it. Blame the artist.

Featured in: Free Online Games to Play with Friends in a Browser

A draw-and-guess party game you play live with friends in a private room — no accounts, no downloads, no strangers. Start a room, share the five-letter code or invite link, and take turns sketching a secret word while everyone else races to type the answer before the clock runs out. Faster guesses score more, the artist earns points when their masterpiece (or disasterpiece) gets guessed, and after a few rounds the podium settles who's the da Vinci of the group chat. Works with 2 to 8 players on desktop or phone — with two players it plays as a co-op: you score together or not at all.

How to Play Sketchling

One player starts a room and shares the five-letter code (or the invite link) with friends. Rooms are private — only people with the code can join, up to 8 players.

Each turn, one player is the artist. They pick one of three secret words and have the round timer to draw it — no letters, no numbers, just drawing.

Everyone else types guesses. Wrong guesses appear in the chat for all to see; a near-miss gets a private "so close!" nudge. Guess right and you score — faster answers earn more, and the first two correct guessers get a bonus.

The artist scores too: the better the room guesses, the more the artist earns. With exactly two players you win or lose each round together.

The turn rotates so everyone draws once per round. After the last round, the podium crowns the winner — and the host can start a rematch in the same room.

Sketchling Strategy Guide

  1. Draw the big, obvious shape first — outline before detail. Most words are guessed from silhouettes, not shading.
  2. Watch the wrong guesses roll in. They tell you what your drawing looks like, so lean away from what it isn’t.
  3. As a guesser, spam plausible short answers early — speed beats spelling out your reasoning, and near-misses get a private hint.
  4. The masked word shows its length and spaces. A two-word answer narrows things down fast.
  5. Artists: a bad drawing that gets guessed beats a beautiful one that doesn’t. You score when they do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sketchling?

Sketchling is a free multiplayer draw-and-guess party game that runs in your browser. One player starts a private room and shares a five-letter code or invite link; friends join, and everyone takes turns sketching a secret word while the rest of the room races to type the answer before the timer runs out. Faster guesses score more, the artist scores when the room guesses right, and after a few rounds the podium crowns a winner.

Is Sketchling free?

Yes, Sketchling is completely free to play in your browser. No download, no account, no signup — the whole room just needs the link.

Is Sketchling a good skribbl.io alternative?

Yes — Sketchling is the same draw-and-guess party formula as skribbl.io, with two differences: rooms are always private (only people with your five-letter code can join, so no strangers), and there are no accounts or ads. Share the invite link in a group chat and you can be playing in under a minute.

How many players do you need for Sketchling?

Sketchling supports 2 to 8 players in a room. With three or more it plays as a competitive party game with a podium at the end. With exactly two players it switches to a co-op mode — you score together or not at all.

Does Sketchling work on mobile?

Yes. You can draw with your finger on a phone or tablet and type guesses with the on-screen keyboard, and phone and desktop players share the same room — the game is fully cross-play.
